Sadly, this won’t work with a vanilla Mountain Lion installer, so you’ll have to find a compatible hacked version. You should download the main program and the Extension Pack, which will give you support for USB devices. VirtualBox doesn’t officially support OS X, but it’s actually very easy to get up and running. VirtualBox and the VirtualBox Extension Pack: VirtualBox is my favourite virtualisation tool for Windows, and it’s completely free. This list should help you find out whether yours does. Note that your processor also needs to support VT-x. If you’re on a 32-bit version of Windows, you can install Snow Leopard instead (Google it as this instructable is for Mountain Lion not Snow Leopard). Mountain Lion is 64-bit, and thus requires your copy of Windows to be 64-bit. Microsoft operating systems and applications are available through Microsoft Dev Tools for Teaching. Before you start the installation process, you’ll want to gather the following: - A PC running 64-bit Windows with at least a dual-core processor and 4GB of RAM. SILS students may also use Windows machines in the SILS Lab when necessary. Boot-Camp is available for free by visiting the ITS Service Desk.Īlternatively, the ITS Virtual Lab offers many Windows application to Mac users through a simple browser interface.

Please note that the process of installing virtualization software and applications can take several hours. It is expected that students will have virtualization software installed BEFORE it is needed in classes. Using virtualization software, students can install a Windows operating system on their Mac and then install the necessary Windows applications. Some SILS classes use software that only runs on a PC. MacOS users should run Windows virtualization software (such as Virtual Box, Bootcamp, Parallels or VMWare) in order to run Windows-only programs on their computers. The SILS Help Desk staff are well-versed in different operating systems, including Macs, and though we can't solve all problems, we are glad to do our best to help you. There is more campus support for Microsoft Windows, however, CCI laptops now include Macs.

We encourage you to choose the operating system with which you are most comfortable. Windows is the current standard as a platform, but alternatives, such as Macs, are widely used and accepted on campus and in Manning Hall.
